New Year’s Resolutions

2011 wasn’t exactly my best year ever, and I spent some time this morning
working out a list of resolutions to try to make next year different. The
list was long, and resoundingly negative. In the end, I realized that I
hated that list, REALLY hated it. The more I thought about it, the more I
felt I needed to simplify it. After much deliberation, I understood what
was at the heart of that list, and reworked it down to just one resolution:

In 2012, I will be a nicer person; to my friends, to the world at large,
and most importantly, to myself.
